Description

100% natural spring water table salt unrefined - without chemical additives - without release agents - without added iodine

In a remote mountain region in the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains in southeastern Morocco, there Where the mountains meet the Sahara desert, lies the small but richly traditional village of Mellha. Mellha is the Arabic word for salt. Here is an ancient well that was carved into the barren rock centuries ago. Saline water is still drawn from this well today. This fountain can only be reached by a long and arduous walk in the middle of a barren rocky landscape. Men scoop up the salty water to evaporate in the scorching sun in landscaped salt gardens. What remains is the coarse-grained salt of the ”Mellaha Lbir” (salt well). It is dried and brought to the village as coarse-grained salt on pack donkeys. Centuries ago, caravans came to Mellha from the desert to exchange dates for the coveted salt. Due to the extremely inaccessible location of the salt well and the limited resources of the villagers, it is not possible to market this high-quality salt in large quantities.
