What remains is the coarse-grained salt of the ”Mellaha Lbir” (salt well). It is dried and brought to the village as coarse-grained salt on pack donkeys. Centuries ago, caravans came to Mellha from the desert to exchange dates for the coveted salt. Due to the extremely inaccessible location of the salt well and the limited resources of the villagers, it is not possible to market this high-quality salt in large quantities.
